After a successful experiment in brilliantly lighting up parts of tlie main road from Paris to Antibes, sections of several miles of main roads near Lyons and Bordeaux have been similarly lighted.

Lyall Bay Library. The Lyall Bay branch municipal library, opened a few weeks ago, has been highly successful. In April, rhe first calendar month since the opening. 4741 books were issued, of which 270:i were in the adult section and 2032 in Dm juvenile section. The issues to juveniles were larger at Lyall Bay than at am. other library, including the centra! library, in April. Although the number of books borrowed by children is expected to fall off somewhat when the library loses its novelty, the figures are regarded as indicative -that the new branch has been needed.
