BRITISH WAGE RATES
Effect of Recent Change ‘ (British Official Wireless.) (Received May 18, 5.5 p.m.) Rugby, May 16. Information received at. the Labour Ministry of changes of rates of wages which came into operation in April shows an increase of nearly £34,ooo_in the weekly full-time wages of 332,500 workers with an offset of a decrease of £2900 affecting 79,000 workers. COST OF LIVING HIGHER (British Official Wireless.) (Received May 18, 5.5 p.m.) Rugby, May 16. The cost of living index of the Labour Ministry at May 1 was approximately 44 per cent, above the level of July, 1914, as compared with 39 per eent. a year ago. It was unchanged from April 1.
