RISK TO SAVE DOG
Descending into a 50ft. hole. at the Coekinaiiiiinge, near Orpington, Kent, iccently, a young man risked his life to save a stray dog. A man pausing ay heard 'the dog’s cries, and police and firemen went to the scene with ropes. George Carlow, aged IS. who lives a short distance away, volunteered to rescue the animal. In spite of the darkness of tlie hole and its crumbling sides. Carlow was lowered to the bottom. Ihe dog disappeared into some caves which open into the hole. He eventually pensuaded it to come to him, and they were hauled to safety.
