Waiwetu Competitions The following were the best cards handed in for the fourball Stapleford competition played on Saturday on the Waiwetu links: —J. J. Cheevers (6) and A. P. Smith (11), 63; V. It. Stace (11) and W. V. Allen (17), 60; J. Sweeney (23) and It. W. Gray (15), 55; W. Gregory (13) and C. Halford (17), 55. Sunday’s stroke competition produced the following scores:— Seniors: A. N. Tosswill, 87-18-60; A. P. smith, 83-14-60 ; J. J. Cheevers, 78-8-70. Juniors: C. J. Paton, 88-20-68; J. Jackson, 00-22-68; U. Halford, 02-22-70. The fourball best-ball bogey competition witnessed the usual thrashing of the "colonel.” The second and third pair mentioned are always prominent in these events, and appear to combine very well indeed. Hollowing were the best cards returned: D. Johnston (9) and J. Jackson (17), 5 up; It. G. Holland (2) and W. V. Lindop (13), J. J. Cheevers (8) and A. P. Smith (11), and C. Halford (17) and N. O. .Maitland (8), 4 up. _ In the second round of the Atkins Cup, G. Hatfield (12) beat E. F. Hammonds (15), 3 and 1; J. J. Garbett (18) beat D. Johnston (12), 3 and 2 (after two replays) ; L. L. Hatfield, 4 and 3 (after a replay); Maitland beat Mitchell, 4 and 3; Williamson beat Itibbands, 2 and 1; Holland beat Gill, 2 and 1; Wilson beat Hogan, 7 and 6: Chambers beat Colquhoun, 2 up; Davis beat Marsden, 2 and 1; Rudolph beat Anderson, 6 and 5. The Watt Cup and Ranish Cup teams to play against Shandon at Shandon on Saturday will be announced later in the week. The most popular man on the course during the week-end was H. C. (Bert) Hogan, who holed his tee shot at the fourth hole (137 yards). This hole is heavily bunkered on either side and the front, and calls for a pitch shot with a lot of stop, owing to the stream at the back. Mornington Club With ideal conditions prevailing, a big field contested the 36 boles bogey competition for the Bowness Cup on the Morningtoil links on Sunday. The scoring was not as good as would have been expected, but steadiness more than brilliance won the day. R. Pattison, with a card of 1 up, being the winner. The next best cards were: —F. A. Wells and T. O’Kelly, all square; W. H. Kelly, A. A. McLean, 1 down ; Syd. Ward, 2 down. The second bogey was won by R. Pattison, with 2 up. the next best cards being:—Syd. Ward, 1 up; A. Charles, L. J. Evans, T. O’Kelly, A. E. Watkins, and F. Wells, all square; W. 11. Kelly, W. Taylor, W. Knudsen, 1 down. In the semi-finals of the Black Cup, K. W. Stephen beat C. E. Petersen, 4 and 3. The game was very even for the first nine holes, but a brilliant run over the next six holes by Stephens settled the issue. Stephen’s figures from the 10th to the 15th being 3,4, 3,2, 3,4, being three birdies and three bogeys. The match jetween F. A. Wells and W. Taylor saw Wells make a flying start with 2,4, 3,3, 4. , to be 6 up over the first six holes. From there on Taylor steadied up, and played good solid golf,

but was unable to reduce the leeway, and was beaten 6 and 5. K. W. Stephen will concede two strokes to F. A. Wells in the final. Next week-end A division, 16 and under, will Play for L. J. Evans trophy, and the B division, 17 and over, will play for the llardwicke trophy, in an 18 holes Stableford competition. Mornington Ladies’ Club In the Dentice Cup competition played by the Morningtou ladies club on Sunday, Miss Harris beat Miss Kilwortb, 5, and 4; Miss Robertson beat Mrs. McNabb, 3 and 1; Mrs. Barton beat Mrs. Winchester, 6 and 5; Mrs. Clements beat Mrs. Stratmore, 5 and 3. The best performer in the bogey competition was Mrs. Andrews, 4 down. Next week-end the Coronation Medal and Aotea Roa Cup competition will be played, the draw being as follows:—Mrs. Andrews and Mrs. Sly; Mrs. Selig and Miss Brunton; Miss Mitchell and Miss Grenside; Mrs. Barton and Mrs. Stratmore ; Mrs. Wells and Miss Robertson; Mrs. McNabb and Miss Taylor; Miss Wellwood and Miss Harris; Mrs. Villars and Miss Muir; Mrs. Clements and Miss Simpson; Mrs. Winchester and another. Wellington Club The first round of the Ward and Weston Cups will be played by the women of the Wellington Golf Club to-morrow.
