Dr. D. Stout has returned to Wellington from the South Island. Mr. E. P. Bunny has returned to Wellington from the South Island. Mr. T. R. Rhodes arrived at Wellington on Saturday from the south. Mr. F. W. Doidge, of Auckland, is visiting Rotorua. Mr. P. R. Climie left Wellington on Saturday night for Christchurch. Mr. A. O. Wilkinson, who has been visiting Wellington, left on Saturday night for Christchurch. Mr. B. Boys, Waipukurau, accompanied by Mrs. Boys, left Wellington on Saturday night for Christchurch. Mr. R. W. Marshall, district manager at Wellington of the Government Tourist Bureau, left for the north last night. Mr. L. Slelghtholme, formerly of the Ambassador Hotel, Auckland, has been appointed manager of tbe Geyser Hotel, Wairakei. Dean U. G. Dubach, of the Oregon State College, Salem, Oregon, and Mrs. Dubach, who are on a round the world tour, passed through Wellington a few days ago en route to Sydney. Mr. G. C. Warren was re-elected for his third consecutive term as president of the North Canterbury district of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union at the annual provincial conference. Mr. B. E. Mills, assistant manager of the Atlantic Union Oil Company, Limited, in New Zealand, returned by the Monterey from a visit to the United States. He was accompanied by Mrs. Mills and their children. Mr. A. J. Driver, country inspector to the South British Insurance Company, at Napier, has been appointed chief clerk in succession to Mr. F. O. Clissold, who has been transferred on promotion to tbe position of chief clerk at Wellington. . Mr. R. L. Prebble will replace Mr. Driver as country inspector. Captain Charles Christopher VaudenBergh, of Auckland, has been appointed manager of the Waterside Labour Engagement Bureau, which Is being instituted at Lyttelton, as a result of an agreement arrived at between the employers and the Lyttelton Waterside Workers’ Union. Captain VandenBergh, who will arrive at Lyttelton shortly to take up his duties, is the holder of an extra master’s certificate. He served his time with the Commonwealth and Dominion Line (uow the Port Line), and was master in that line from 1919 to 1926. He resigned in 1927, and was for a time relieving master in command of the steamer Arundale. He was later in command o f various vessels for contract delivery for F. P. Barney and Company, ship and insurance brokers, London. In 1929-30 he was chief officer of the steamer Hong Wa and later of the steamer Hong Peng, of Singapore. He resigned in 1931 and returned to New Zealand. For the last four years Captain Vanden-Bergh has been on the staff of the Westfield Freezing Company, Auckland.
