NELSON TROTS

Ideal Wins the Chief Event Dominion Special Service. Nelson, May 16. The Nelson Trotting Club was favoured with glorious weather for the opening day of its meeting, and the track was in good order. There was a large attendance, and the totalisator investments were £5498. Some excellent racing was witnessed, and with the exception of the Wakefield Handicap, the iields were very good. Ideal won the chief race, and the ex-.Auck-laniler, Aircraft, was also successful. Count I’arrish was tile early leader for the Brightwater Handicap, but Margaret Parrish and Wikitoria had charge at the six furlongs. Margaret Parrish led at the distance, but broke and Wikitoria went on to win from Count Parrish. Margaret Parrish and Corrianda were next. Travelwell won the Wakefield Handicap practically all the way. Along the back Passport, who was goiug well, broke and dropped back, but finished strongly into second place, with Major Guy a moderate third. The Chief Event. The Nelson Trotting Club Handicap furnished a good contest, and was won by the third fancy, Ideal, who was patiently driven, Superb and Trada led for .a mile, where Trada took charge to lead a bunched field into the straight. In a good finish Ideal did best from Grand Author, who tangled, with Decoy Bird and Great Chum next. After waiting on Kaitawa and Aimworthy until into tlie final dash, Aireratt shot through quickly to the front to win the Motueka Handicap from Allworthy, who held on to beat the fast-finishing First Aid for second place. Dusky Chum, who got a bad run in the straight, was next. The favourite, .Shoelace, lost a lot o! ground at I he start. Winnie Parrish made a runaway race of the Foxhill Handicap, for whi-h Wahrungu was made favourite. Count I’arrish was in second place until crossing the top, where Native Leaf headed him to get second. Tlie rest were well back. An inquiry was held into tlie running of Wahrungu, and after hearing evidence no action was taken. Northern Guy led Major Guy and Passport into the straight in the Murchison Handicap, but the last-named went right away to win easily. Brian Born finished well to cut Major Guy out of second place, and Real Pal, who did not run generously under pressure, was fourth. , In a fine finish Decoy Bird came through to win the Dash Handicap narrowly from the fast-finishing Dandy Locanda, with Kaitawa, who led into the straight, with Buddy close up third. Lady Ann, bracketed with the winner, was'fourth, followed by Great Chum and AVaving Corn. Results in Detail By Telegraph—Press Association.
