Mr. James Purchase presided at the annual meeting of the Nearby Farmers’ Association at Wellington, when the following officers were elected: —President, Mr. James Purchase; vice-president, Mr. Trotter; executive, Messrs. A lighted match thrown on the roadway where petrol had been spilled at the back of a motor-car, was responsible for the -fire brigade being summoned to Courtenay Place at 6.14 p.m. on Saturday. The flames were extinguished before they had time to damage the car.
