AVIATION SERVICES

Government and Aero Clubs FULL BENEFIT OF SUBSIDY “It is pleasing to report that the sum of £20,000 was included in last year’s estimate for the Public Works Department for expenditure on aerodromes and emergency landing grounds,” said Mr. C. Weinstein (Wellington), president of the New Zealand Aero Club, when reporting yesterday on work done since the last meeting. “Members will remember that we made direct representation some time ago. asking that the sum of £5OOO bo increased to £20,000 to give full effect to the proposed policy for developing aerodromes. “The Minister asked that this club submit complete figures from all the constituent clubs of the pupils trained and renewals of licenses granted for last year. This was done, and the clubs have now received their allocation. The total number of pilots subsidised was 101, with an additional 174 for renewal of licenses. There were more pupils trained than this, and more renewals, but the whole of the subsidy granted with the exception of £2O was distributed to clubs. We have to thank the Minister of Defence, Hon. F. Jones, for seeing that the clubs received the full benefit of Ute amount granted. It is Imped that ho will give further consideration to our request for an increase to £lO.OOO in view of the very difficult financial position of most of the clubs.

“Nothing further was done with the proposal sent out after tiie last meeting regarding radio installation at aerodromes. It was felt that tiie cost was a little more than individual clubs could stand at the present time, and that it was a matter for the Government to undertake.” A resolution. “That the position of president of the New Zealand Aero Club rotate annually among the* clubs comprising its membership.” had not been accepted by ibe clubs.
