ALEXANDRA HOME REPORT

The fact that the hospital is entirely separate from the home, and that it. is used for anti-natal work and cou/iucments. and women can receive medical attendance anti nursing in a perfectly modern and up-to-date manner, is stressed in the 56th annual report of the Alexandra Home. The home, the report states, carries on its usual kindly and most helpful work, and it is hoped that people will realise that the need for help for this brancli is most urgent. Much pleasure is expressed that the hospital building has, at last, been completed, the new part comprising dining, sitting, and lecture rooms, ample bath and bedroom accommodation, sun veranda and matron's quarters. When all was finished a number of doctors and nurses of the city were invited to come and look over the building. About 80 came, and were extremely pleased with all they saw. Tributes are paid to all who have helped with the furnishing and other work, mention being made of Misses Greenwood and Vickerman, a welcome back to Miss Morgan after a furlough, of Mrs. Price for excellent management of home and inmates, and of Sister Julius during her time as sister in charge. In the year 23 registered nurses entered the hospital for training, all being successful in passing examinations and eight with honours. Dr. Corkill is thanked for his excellent nursing lectures, and for kind and continued help in the home. There were 329 births at the home during the year, 280 of the patients being married women. No maternal deaths occurred, and only six of infants. Five outside cases were attended. The ante-natal attendances at tile clinic numbered 272 new cases and 1366 return cases.
