Presentation of Trophies Trophies won (luring the past season by clubs playing under the jurisdiction of the Wellington Mercantile Cricket Association, were presented to the winners at a pleasant smoke concert in the Oddfellows’ Hall last night, which was attended by representatives of the various clubs. Reference was imide by various speakers to the manner in which the teams had upheld the traditions of the league. In presenting the trophies the chairman, Mr. J. Furlong, congratulated the teams which had been successful. Although the summer had not been altogether favourable, and despite the fact that some of the fields on which teams lind to play had been poor, the standard of play had been pleasingly high. He presented tr >- phies ot the following A grade. Roseneat h; B grade, Sargoods; C grade, .Justice; D grade, Labour-Tourist; E grade. United Leather Merchants; ” grade, Excelsior ; G grade, Rovers; Heinemann Cup, Taxes C. Memento shields were presented to the championship winners of last year as follow: —A grade, State Fire; 13 grade, Woolworths; 0 grade, Taubmans; D grade, Grey Cabs; E grade, Empire Box; F grade, Patersons; (1 grade, United Leather Merchants. The toasts of the King and the championship winners were proposed by the chairman, the latter toast being responded to b- representatives of each club. The toast of the League Umpires’ Association was honoured on the motion of Mr. P. Stiver and responded to by Mr. J. C. Cusack. Mr. E. Casey proposed the toast of old Mercantile cricketers and groundsmen this being replied to by Messrs. A. C. Croll, a past chairman, H. Arndt. W Dobson, the groundsman. During the evening thc_ gathering was entertained by ’Messrs. K. Rigby, M. Liddle, G. Kean, R. Williams and G. Sutherland.
