EVENING PARTY

Delegates Entertained The rooms of the National Club, Featherston Street, were looking particularly attractive last night, when the Women’s Auxiliary of the National Party entertained delegates to the National Political Federation’s conference at present sitting at Wellington. Tall baskets of pastel-tinted hydrangeas stood sentinel at the top oi the stairway, and in the lounge and the other rooms bowls, vases ami smaller baskets of hydrangeas and tawny chrysanthemums were artistically arranged at points of vantage Greatly admired were the huge square glass jars in which stood long-stemmed hydrangeas. ..Vases of vivid iceland poppies gave,, a warm tone to the supper-room, and any suggestion of chilliness was dispelled by the blazing fires that threw out their warmth to all parts of the rooms. A delicious supper was served, during which ail present had an opportunity of meeting and getting to know each other. The arrangements were in the bauds of Mrs. F. Ward, president of the auxiliary, and her energetic committee. During the evening the following contributed items to a most enjoyable programme: Miss Willis, Mrs. D Herbert, Mr Will Mason, Mrs. Marshall (vocal solos), and Miss Hazel Hunt and Miss Evelyn Goldsmith (elocutionary items). The accom panists were Mrs. Shepherd and Miss Kay. Before supper was Served those present were addressed by Mrs. G. W. Forbes, Mrs. J. G. Coates, Miss Sanders and Dr. G. Tarkington. The guests, who included many of the men attending tlie conference, were welcomed in a happy speech by Mrs. Ward, who wore a frock of black laee under a handsome three-quarter-length coat of heavy satin, with fur collar and hetivily embroidered in gold and red.
