ANNIVERSARY BALL
Wellington Repertory Theatre The Wellington Repertory Theatre was founded ten years ago, and its first play was produced in May, 1926. To commemorate this, and also to mark the beginning of the society’s 1939-37 season, the committee decided to hol<j an anniversary ball, which took place at the Sti. Francis Hall last night and proved to be an outstanding success The ball was preceded by a most interesting programme, and the targe audience who enjoyed this was added to by members who arrived later for the dancing. Two one-act plays wete presented: “Village Wooing,” by George, Bernard Shaw, in which Miss Kain-' leen Smith and Mr. W. Fergusson Hogg were the players, under the direction of Miss A. Louise Hall, and “Hare Done with Innocence,” an original fantasy by Margaret M. Pearson, a member of the society. The east included Miss Pearson and Messrs. Redmond Phillips, Frank Hayes Towns and John Proudfoot. Miss Pearson was the producer. The latter play was particularly well received. It is not the first time that Repertory 'hers have heard some of Miss Pear?*’ ’delightful work, and it is hoped she will produce many more plays of the quality of “Have Done with Innocence.” Mr«. John Hastings, who is always popular with Repertory audiences, was heard ir some new sketches, which were very much appreciated. The president of the Wellington Repertory Theatre, Mr. AV. M. Page, and Mrs. Page acted as host and hostess for the evening, and received their guests at the entrance to the hall. Mrs. Page wore a shoulder spray of pink roses with her black gown. Mrs. Charles McDonald provided incidental music, and an excellent orchestra played from the stage for the dancing afterward. Supper was served in buffet fashion in the spacious downstairs room.
