ABOUT JOE VALLI

QpHE inimitable Joe Valli is principal comedian in “The Flying Doctor.” [ Although Valli’s name is spelt the same ' as that of Virginia Valli, Charles Barrel's wife, he is not related to her. When Virginia sees the film, “The Flying Doctor,” which Farrell has just completed in Australia, she may be interested to see her namesake. Joe Valli’s real name is McFarlane. How he came to adopt the name of Valli is amusing. In 1904 he was travelling with Paul Cinquvalli, the world’s greatest juggler, with whom he appeared for three and a half years as his valet. After the show people would cluster around the stage door asking to see “Joe, the valet,” and “Joe Valli” it has remained ever since.

ANNOUNCEMENT has just been made of I be signing of Irene Dunne to a contract with Paramount, whereby she will make three pictures a year, starting with the 1936-37 programme. Miss Dunne, who abandoned a promising career on the New York dramatic and musical comedy stage to transfer her talents to the screen, has been building prestige steadily since her first appearance in motion pictures, and has won for herself a reputation for competence and dependability of performance unexcelled by any other star.
