COMMUNITY SING

“Scotty” Fraser Fund Benefits For .more than alt hour yesterday an audience in the St. James Theatre forgot the day was wet and stormy, forgot its collective and individual worries and performed lustily at the first community sing held in Wellington this winter. The sing was organised to assist the -fund for the family of Mr. “Scotty” Fraser, who wa’s killed at Rongotai on March 28, when his parachute failed to open. Those who gave their services included Messrs. H. F. Wood, Frank Crowther, Will Mason, Harison Cook and Charles Proctor, also Ossie Cheesman’s band, and a! smart jazz band from Taranaki. The last-named combination, Vlnsen’s Ambassadors, performed the feat of playing for a dance in Stratford on Tuesday night, appearing in the St. James at midday, then setting off with the intention of being back.- in Stratford in time for more jollifications last night. ■ . The sing was pronounced a signal succes.s, and the takings, £ll, were considered as satisfactory in view of the weather conditions.
