MOTOR-CYCLE SPEED TRIALS
Ixion Club at Waikanae The Ixion Motor-cycle Club’s Im'lfmile speed trials were held at Waikanae beach last Sunday tinder ideal conditions. The beach was firm and hard and there was only a very slight southerly breeze in the morning, veering to the north during the afternoon. The course was accurately measured and all runs were electrically timed. The speeds shown are a result of the mean time for two runs, one in ea'ch direction. The outstanding performances were registered by W. Bowe, on an Ariel, who put up the fastest time of the day with a mean speed of 91.837 miles per hour, and a fastest single run of 93.075 m.p.h., and F. Critehley, who broke the existing 350 c.c. class record with a speed of 82.949 m.p.h. Critchley’s speed is all the more creditable as his machine was using ordinary petrol, whereas the previous record was established on a special racing fuel. Detailed results are as follow
