“CAPPICADe 1936”
There can be no doubt but that the capping revue to be presented at the Grand Opera House to-morrow, Monday and Tuesday evenings will be one of the finest extravaganzas ever placed before a Wellington audience by Victoria College students. The dialogue stands far above the average for its satire and wit, and for its topicality. In the music the audience will welcome three new songs by John Carrad, ‘‘The Feelies,” the Communist, Trio’s chorus, and the "Goodnight” finale. These belong to the score of "Brave New Zealand,” but in “Ilell's Bells” also the music, with it> popular favourites and martial airs, is'outstanding. But the crowning feature of both revues will be t-be ballets. The leading character in “Hell’s Bells” is the Dictator of Nozi Umbugonia, played in fine style by A. H. Scotney, and supported by an excellent, albeit mechanical, council, in which P. Macaskill and Martin Liddle, as Stonio and Doolittel, are controversial ring-leaders.. The Tea-y-pistes in the Ministry, of Exterminational. Affairs display a marked ability to retain their feminine attraction in spite of their dictatorial surroundings. It would be difficult, to imagine a more original scene than the final one in“ Brave New Zealand,” when the Savages, led by Tweedledum and Tweedle-dee, deliver their election perorations in the decanting room, to the girls and students of the Hatchery. Under the glaring eye of Mustapha and the winsome twinkle of Anne Howe, Mr. Diddtlopp and Mickey, tlie super-Savage. harangue the audience in a method which would gain votes at any election. Mrs. Sox Billyboy, the noh-political candidate, is the favourite, but just in time for the annihilation of her late compatriots. An original intermission, produced with his own music by John Oarrad,’has just been announced. The box plan is now open at the D.1.C., and the official programme, l’Cappicade Booklet. 1936,” is on sale everywhere.
