William Powell will make only two pictures a year after fulfilling his present contractual obligations. “I’m convinced I’ll live longer that way,” he said recently on the set at RKO Radio. !An£ I do not mean just professionally. I lost 15 pounds while doing my last picture. That made me reallise as I never had before, the toll that [continuous work before the cameras exacts.” Powell has. been one of the [screen’s steadiest and hardest workers rfor more than 10 years. Far from I wearing out his welcome, frequent screen appearances have steadily increased his popularity. The result has been a demand for his services that he has been unable to fill, even by making as many as five pictures a year.
Brilliantly . adapted from Pierre Benoit’s great drama of love and intrigue at the court of Lautenbourg, “Koenigsmark,” the first of C.®* M. Woolf Anglo-French productions for British Empire Films, has been filmed on most lavish and spectacular lines with a colossal cast headed by Elissn Landi, who was brought from Hollywood especially for the role. Miss Landi's great command of the French language, in addition to her loveliness, radiant charm and artistic ability, made her the obvious choice for the starring role in both versions. The male lead is played by Pierre Fresnay, a famous French star.
