Auckland Branch to Close The lease of the building occupied by Mason. Stuthers and Co., Ltd., in Customs Street, Auckland, has been acquired by Mr. John E. Bates, of Christchurch, it was announced on Tuesday. Mason. Struthers and Company have decided Io close their Auckland branch, and 'the lease, a harbour board lease', nnd a haif interest in the building have been acquired by Mr. Bates, who will establish a modern china and glass-ware salon on the site. The price of file purchase lias not been disclosed. The property has a frontage of 50 feet nnd the building is of four stories with a basement and stands a few yards from Queen Street. It runs through to the street at the back of the post office ami faces the open section near the old railway station, which it is proposed to convert into a bus station. Part of the building is occupied by tenants, but that part which will lie used by Mr. Bates will require little alteration to make it suitable. Many Auckland Harbour Board leases have a very small ground rent, ami on this property tlie rent is only £173 a year. The lense has 17} years to run.
