FORECAST FOR TO-DAY’S WEATHER.
Fairly general rain, overcast conditions and cold temperatures. Following is the weather report and forecast, issued by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, for the 24 hours ending 3 p.m. to-day: Barometers arc still high in the north, but a rattier intense depression the South Island. An anti-cyclone is advancing from eastern Austiatia on t<> the Tasman Sea. but a cyclone is located off the north Queensland coast. Winds, moderate to strong northerly (ot’orth.-westeriy generally, of gale force in places south of New Plymouth and Napier; southerly, however, in the far south, mid southerlies extending over most of the Dominion sboitly. Seas in New Zealand .waters rough south of Cape Egrnont and about Cook Strait ; moderate, but Inter rising elsewhere. . Strong northerly at first in the northern portion of the Eastern Tasman Sea, hut strong southerlies soon prevailing generally; seas rough. Weather cloudy to overcast, with fairly general rain ; sn°w on some of U>e rangw and hail on parts of the southern and eastern coastal areas of the South Js land: temperatures becoming cold. Conditions improving to-morrow on the West Coast of the South Island. YESTERDAY’S WEATHER. Wellington.— Dull and threatening, with a strong north-west wind to gale blowing; minimum temperature on Thursday night, oo.Odcg.; maximum yesterday, . 62.3 deg.; at 4 p.m., 61.6 deg. Rainfall at ‘“The Dominion’’ building for 24 hours ended midnight, .o~in. Rainfall for March. 3.26 in.; for year, 16.S2in. Palmerston North— Morning dull, absence of sunshine, cooler temperatures; skyclearing slightly later; light north-westerly wind. Masterton.— Bright sunshine, with heavy passing clouds; moderate westerly breeze. Wanganui.— Warm, but dull and overcast, with a .light north-westerly breeze. Waipukurau.— Bright, sunny day, with a light breeze. Auckland.— Fine and' sunny, with a moderate north-east wind.
