As Miramar grounds affairs were under consideration, Mr. Linton, groundsman of the courts, was in attendance at the meeting for his views to be heard. The treasurer (Mr. Donnell) said the question was, who was going to originate the policy that was going to be carried out at Miramar, which was the heart and soul of the association? .“1 think,” he said, "we have got to decide who is going to put forward the suggestions and the ideas of what should, or should not, be used at Miramar.” Mr. Linton said he realised, the financial circumstances of the association, and therefore the committee could rest assured he would only ask for what he knew it could afford. Miramar soil was ■not suitable under any circumstances. He must have Hutt Valley soil if good results were to be obtained. After hearing Mr. Linton it was decided to accede to his requests in the matter of soil and the other requirements. Mr. Linton asked that better material for repairing nets be obtained than was at present being used. A man was now engaged in repairing a number of nets, and he was making a first-class job of it. Mr. Linton was given authority to procure better material. It was stated by the chairman, also, that it was hoped in the near future to make a centre court, the present western stand being erected in a permanent position.
After long discussion iu committee on the relations that should exist between the grounds committee and the groundsman. it was decided “that the grounds committee accept the opinion of the groundsman in all technical matters relating to construction and maintenance; in the event of a difference of opinion the matter to be brought before the management committee.” Mr. Linton reported that the grass courts would be available for the tournament at Easter, provided the weather was suitable.
