FORECAST FOR TO-DAY’S WEATHER.
Still fair to fine generally; temperatures becoming warmer. Following is the weather report and forecast issued by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, for the 24 hours ending 3 p.m. to-day. An anti-cyclone lies centrally over the Dominion to-day. Au extensive depression covers Eastern Australia, and is advancing on to the Tasman .Sea. Winds, light to moderate and variable at first, but soon becoming north-easterly or northerly and gradually freshening. Seas in New Zealand waters: A considerable but decreasing southerly swell south of East Cape; otherwise slight to moderate, but later rising in the far south. Light to moderate northerly winds and slight to moderate seas in the- Eastern Tasman Sea. but wind and sea later rising. Weather still fair to fine generally hut clouding over in the western and far southern parts of the South Island, with rain developing in those areas. Temperatures gradually becoming warmer. YESTERDAY’S WEATHER. Wellington.—Fair, though mostly cloudy, with a slight southerly wind, changing to northerly after 11 a.m. The minimum temperature on Tuesday night was 49.2 deg., the maximum yesterday 61.9<ieg., and the temperature at 4 p.m., 60.6 deg. Rainfall at "The Dominion” buildin.- for 24 hours ended midnight, nil. Rainfall for March, 3.24 in.; for yen’, IG.SOin. Palmerston North.—Bright sunshine in the morning, sky later becoming overcast with cooler temperatures. Winds, light and variable, easterly in the morning, later south-westerly. Masterton. —Fine and sunny: practically no wind. Wanganui.—Fine and warm with n cloudless sky. Waipukurau.—A fine day with' sunshine in the afternoon. The temperature was Auckland. —Fine, with a light wind which was very changeable and varied from all points of the compass. The barometer rose during the morning and was steady at 30.10 in. after midday. Christchurch.—Fine, with a moderate north-east breeze and a maximum temperature of 57.8 deg. The barometer was steady at 30.15111. Dunedin.—Dull and cold in the morning, but the barometer remained steady at 30.17 in. In the latter part of the afternoon there was a period of sunshine. A light north-east wind in the morning fell away in the afternoon. The maximum temperature was SSdeg.
