“Progressive Garden Party” Yesterday's glorious sunshine must surely have been a compliment from the “clerk of the weather” to the Wellington Free Kindergarten Association for the innovation it provided in a “progressive garden party,” which was attended by between four and five hundred people during the afternoon. A “progressive garden party” was decided upon in preference to the usua, annual garden party to augment the Free Kindergarten funds, and, judging by the numbers who responded to the idea, nothing could have been more successful. About a hundred car owners made up parties for the occasion, and everyone set out in the early Afternoon for the first destination, “Homewood,” the lovely garden of Mr. and Mrs. B. Sutherland, at Karori. Some time was spent wandering about the grounds among a wealth'of glorious flowers, the ferneries, cool and green, and the conservatories, where the beautiful begonia blooms, of every variety ami colour, came in for a great deal o! admiration. The next “port of call” w’as 186 The Terrace, Mrs. W. E. Herbert’s garden, which was looking particularly lovely, with masses of hydrangeas and the terraced rockeries a blaze of colour. The third and last garden visited was “Ngaroma,” Mr. and Mrs. Hope B. Gibbons’s home at Lyall Bay. By this time everyone was ready for refreshment, and a large band of workers were kept busy serving afternoon tea. It was a real al fresco meal in the most pleasant of surroundings—another beautiful garden. Little tables and chairs were set out in the couityard, the garages, the terrace, and little shady corners, as well as in the sun-room. A competition was won by Miss Lang and Mrs. Little, and the association will benefit by the sum of £55 from this novel garden party. Among the many who made the "excursion” were Mrs. G. A. Bucklin, Mrs. IV. Orebaugh, Mrs. G. P. H. Davidson, Mrs. L. Vaughan Morgan, Miss Harcourt, Mrs. F. Ward, Mrs. H. A. Bown Mrs. A. L. Hempton, Miss Hempton, Mrs. Erreld Martin, Madame Merlin, Mrs. E.
