Maori Trenches
On the summit of one of the hills on the Olrig Station (Hawke’s Bay) there is a system of trenches which was evidently set out in the early Maori wars. These trenches, which are in a fairly good state of preservation, are laid out in much the same manner as described in the latest army text books for hilly country. Many interesting discoveries have been made in them—some of the finds include skeletons, axes, and clubs. —“G.O.L.”
