Trentham and Motukarara Candidates Dominion Special Service. Christchurch, March 5. Conditions were very favourable for training operations at Riccarton to-day, and a large amount of fast work was executed on the outside of the course proper, which, after recent rains, provided excellent footing. The. majority of the horses to race at Motukarara on Saturday were seen in action. Wild Chase opened proceedings by running half a mile in 52, and Fracas strode over seven furlongs in 1.31, the last halfmile in 52 3-5. This pair will make the trip to Trentham. Impersonator beat Owlsnost over half a mile in 51 2-5. and Sky Pilot easily beat Ilororata over seven furlongs in 1.31, both stopping badly over the last furlong. Variant and Roaming galloped six furlongs in 1.1!) 3-5. the last four in 53. and their stable mates Saucy Sally and Gay Helen sprinted three furlongs along the back. Custos and La France reeled off half a mile in 49 4-5, finishing together. The latter will race prominently on Saturday. Tout le Monde and Tlorotiu strode over seven furlongs in 1.34 2-5. the last halfmile in 54. Greek Shepherd and Argentic were companions in an interesting trial over a mile, keeping together throughout. Knockfin. from a flying start, ran the first two furlongs of half a mile along the back in 24, and completed the workin 50 1-5. Cranford and Concert pitch covered seven furlongs in 1.32 3-5, after taken 37 for the first three. Golden Dart and Davolo drew away

from Colombo and Rebel Chief over the las’t two furlongs of a six furlong task, and they were together passing the post four lengths in front of Colombo, with a bigger gap Io Rebel Chief. The distance was covered in 1.17 2-5, Ilic lost, half in 51 4-5. Davolo, who conceded Golden Dart weight, went exceptionally well, but Colombo was disappointing, while Rebel Chief was done with early in the run home.
