“GAIETIES OF 1936”
Final Performances To-day "Life Begins at 8" was performed for the last time by Stanley McKay« popular ‘’Gaieties’’ company at tbe Opera llou.se last evening and drew a large and appreciative audience. There is not a dull moment in the Gaieties’ productions, and lant night the work of the comedians’, singers and specialty artiste was enjoyed to the full. Trampo, “the hobo on the wire,’’ received a great reception, as did Wyn Edgerton (soprano) and Russell Callow (tenor) in the “Miserere” (“HTrovatore”), and Patricia and Colin in their clever adagio act. Elvy Ferguson, violinist, has played hejself into popular favour, and the "Three Alecs” received a hearty recall for their amusing crazy tumbling bicycle act. Reno's performing dogs were another popular item.
A new review entitled “Tres Bien” will be staged for the "Gaieties’ ” farewell performance this evening, and this is claimed to be the most spectacular aud the merriest offering of the'season. An item of special interest will be the sketch “Tbe Nudist Colony,” with Ike Delavale and Wyn Edgerton as tbe lovers and Joe Rox and Maggie Buckley as the parente. In tbe Gaieties’ musical trio Miss Edgerton will sing “Angus McDonald” and “One Night of Love,” aud Jliss Ferguson will play "Hungarian Dance.” Tbe «ong scenas will be full of colour and sparkle, and the management is endeavouring to make the farewell performance the most enjoyable revue of the eeanon. A particularly interesting item will be the singing of “Ole Mau River” by Ike Delavaie in the “Negroland” musical seena, which ends' the first half of the programme, ie Mr. Delavale's work has, heretofore, been of the comic’order, this change to the sentimental should prove of special interest to the Gaieties’ patrons. A special gift matinee will be given at 2.30 this afternoon, when a specially interesting programme, suitable for old and young, has been arranged. During the matinee a brand new bicycle, which is displayed in Coachman's window, 'will be given away.
