Annual Meeting Held Addressing a gathering of about 150 at the annual meeting of Um Hutt Rugby Football Club last night, the president, Sir Alexander Roberta, said the club xviis making its weight felt in all the grades throughout the competition. He was disappointed the senior team did not win the championship, birs it had put up a very line performance. Sir Alexander congratulated tlie Petone club ou its victory, and said he thought he was voicing the feeling of all when he said that when the Hutt club could not win the championship, themselves they liked to see their friends in Petone win it. He spoke of the feeling of sportsmanship between the two clubs, and said the Mcßain Memorial Shield bad been most useful in creating that feeling of friendship. The two games against Petone were the hardest last year, and they were two of the friendliest. It was agreed on the suggestion of Sir Alexander to send a letter of congratulation to the Petone club.
The president congratulated also the tireless supporters of • the club—the coaches of the various grades—saying they had worked indefatigably, and the cjub was most grateful for what they had done during the past season. Thanks were extended to'Captain L.'W. Andrexv, V.C., the physical instructor, and to Mt'. H. Vagg, for the excellent grounds he provided last season. Sir Alexander said he was sorry the club did not have an All Biack to welcome home, but that was’ a shortcoming xvhich the young members must see did not occur again.
In paying a tribute to the referees, the president said he could say quite confidently that wonderful services were given by the referees in the Wellington district. So far as the finances were concerned .Sir Alexander said he was sorry to say they were showing a retrograde movement. However, the club bad resources to fall back on. He reminded the gathering that there were a great many nonplayers who helped the club financially, and they were quite willing to help those who helped themselves. Therefore, jf members would be proihpt with, their subscriptions people would be encouraged to assist. Eleven new members were elected. In proposing that Sir Alexander should ■be re-elected president, Mr. A. Marshall said he was a wonderful asset to the club. He felt sure all appreciated his services. ■Sir Alexander, who was re-elected unanimously, assured the gathering that it was one of Ins real delights to be associated with the Hutt clubs. A resolution of appreciation of the services of Mr. J. La Roche, retiring club captain, was carried.
