Fair to cloudy; milder temperatures. Following is the weather report and forecast issued by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, for the 24 hours ending 3 p.m. to-day - An anti-cyclone is centred east of the South Island. A shallow depression is still located north of New Zealand, while another is advancing across the south Tasman Sea. South-east to east winds in and north of Cook Strait, strong to gale force north of Kawhia and Napier; elsewhere light to moderate. North-easterlies or northerlies predominating over the South Island, and strong in the far south, later backing to southerlies. Seas rough to high north of Gisborne, and rough offshore north of Kawhia; elsewhere in New Zealand waters slight to moderate, but rising about t'oveaux Strait. East winds in the northern portion of the eastern Tasman Sea. and northerlies in the southern portion; force fresh to strong, with rather rough to rough seas. Rain at many places in the northern half of the North Island,* with some heavy falls in the far north and north-east. Scattered rains developing also in the far south-west and south; elsewhere fair to cloudy. Temperatures milder. YESTERDAY’S WEATHER. ’Wellington.— Brilliantly fine, with a gentle easterly breeze, changing to southerly in the afternoon. The minimum temperature ou n ednesday night was 44.2 deg., the maximum yesterday 65.8 deg., and the temperature at 4 p.m. yesterday was 62.4 deg. Rainfall at “The Dominion” building for 24 hours ended midnight, nil. Rainfall for March, 1.72 in.; for year, 15.2 Sin. Palmerston North.— The sky was cloudless in the morning, with warm temperatures. The afternoon was cooler, with gathering clouds. lhere was a keen south-easteriy wind. Masterton. — Fine but overcast; light easterly breeze. Wanganui.—Fine and warm, with passing eloud and a light westerly breeze. Waipuhurau.—A dull, cold day, with occasional light showers. The barometer was steady. Auckland.— Fine but cloudy; there was a fresh south-easterly wind, and conditions were warm, the temperature at midday being 70deg. J lie barometer was steady throughout the day at 30in. Christchurch. — Pleasant, sunny weather all day, with a gentle north-east breeze. The barometer fell slightly in the afternoon, but was recovering. Dunedin.— Fine and pleasant, with bright sunshine and a moderate north-east breeze. The maximum temperature was 65deg.
