DELAYED VINTAGE

A marked delay in the ripening of the grape harvest as a result of tiie long spell of damp weather is reported from the Te Kauwhata district. Estiplace the main crop, that of AlSurprise, as fully three weeks late. What is needed at present is a spell of hot weather, this being essential to the formation of grape sugar. The crop is also likely to be delayed by the storm of several weeks ago, when salt winds caused a great deal of damage to leaves on the vines. Further inconvenience has been caused by the frequent rains washing off sprays as soon as they have been applied, aud this task has had to be repeated more than cnee in some eases.
