Nomads Beaten By High School at Palmerston Dominion Special Service. Talmerston North, March 5. The touring Nomads cricket eleven played a match to-day, when they were defeated by 62 runs on the first innings by Palmerston North High School on the school grounds. Nomads, .however, were two men short, and smart returns by High School fieldsmen resulted in three men being run out. Cameron headed Nomads score with a well-played 42, but Ihe was the only batsman to exceed single figures. Scoring among the High School eleven was evenly distributed. Collins, the ex-New Zealand cricket captaiu, was the best bowler with four wickets for 26. Playing conditions were excellent, with the wicket favouring the batsmen. ROAD SAFETY

Manawatu Committee Meets Palmerston North, March 5. Representatives of local bodies in the Manawatu recently held a conference in Palmerston North to consider accident prevention, at which a safety first committee was set up. This committee met to-day under the chairmanship of the president of the Chamber of Commerce, Mr. A. J. Graham. Matters relating to the improvement of present conditions were considered in connection with a suggestion from the previous conference that the regulations should be amended to provide that it be compulsory for motorists always to carry a certificate to the effect that the brakes and lights on the vehicle complied with the regulations. It was decided that a deputation consisting of Mr. N. H. Mackie, president of the automobile association (Manawatu), Mr. IV. B. Cameron, chairman of the transit committee, city council, should wait on the Minister of Transport to discuss the matter. It was decided to recommend to local bodies that the regulations regarding cyclists.without lights be rigidly enforced.' Particular reference was made to the number of breaches, at present so noticeable. and the consequent danger to both motorists and cyclists.' A motion was passed recommending local bodies to pay ',due regard to the medical fitness of applicants for the renewal of drivers’ licenses, it being suggested that applicants should be requires to make a further declaration concerning their health and general fitness to drive.

During February 10.08 inches of rainV were recorded at Waipawa, making 14.13? inches for the two months of the current year. At Waipukurau, which is only five miles from Waipawa. the rainfall for February was 6.95 inches, while in the back country at Blackburn 14 inches fell in February, with 19.55 inches for the two months.
