The Thespians
POR their first production of the 1936 X season the Thespians have decided to present "The Sport of Kings,” lan Hay’s famous comedy which critics have regarded as one of the most amusing plays of recent years. “Sport of Kings” ran for well over nine months when it was first produced m , London, critics agreeing with the public that it was the brightest comedy seen for many years. lan Hay has been responsible for a great many London stage successes, but even "The Midshipmaid” did not equal the astounding reception of “Sport of Kings.” A new departure is being made by the Thespians in presenting a one-act play as a curtain-raiser to the main production. As “Sport of Kings” is to bo presented during New Zealand Authors’ Week, it has been decided that the curtain-raiser shall be “Clay,” a new one-act play by Eric Bradwell, the well-known Wellington author, who has already had several one-act plays published in London “Cl.ay” is described by the author as an "experimental” play, and it introduces an entirely new method of dramatic presentation. The play was an easy winner of last year’s British Dramatic League playwriting contest, and it is considered that the production of the play by the Thespians will make theatrical history. The following are taking part in the production of “Clay”: Vivienne Tait, Marjorie Eberlet, Iris Austin, Agnes Elliott, Phyllis Fitzgerald. Joan Harvey. IT. Norman Hannah and Eric Evan-Young. Both "Clay” and “Sport of Kings” will be produced by Victor S. Lloyd, director of the Thespians, assisted by Winnie Cooley.
