PARTLY GUTTED

Big Christchurch House By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, February 29. Fire partly gutted a 17-roomed house on Fcndglton Road, owned by Mr. C. G. McKellar, and formerly the property of Lady Clifford, in the early hours of this morning. The cause of the Are is a mystery. An insurance of £2OOO on the house is held by the Mercantile and General Insurance Co., Ltd. This was the amount on the building when it was owned by Lady Clifford, and when a syndicate took over, the insurance was carried on.

Mr. McKellar intended living in the house, and two of the front rooms were being pulled down This work was started two days ago, and it is in this portion of the building that the fire is thought to have started.
