EARLY SETTLERS

Meeting of Association INCREASE IN MEMBERSHIP A satisfactory increase in the membership of the Wellington Early Settlers’ and Historical Association is recorded in the annual report of the association, which held its annual meeting in the Clyde Quay Hall on Saturday. The report stated that many direct descendants of the early settlers had signified during the past year their wish to carry on the work of their parents by joining up with the association. The meeting was presided over by Professor F. P. Wilson. The report stated that during the ensuing year the association’s collection of photographs, pictures and mementoes of all kinds must be catalogued in readiness to be handed over to the Dominion Museum. A letter was received from Government House stating that the GovernorGeneral, as his Majesty’s representative in New Zealand, expressed his deep appreciation of the loyal resolution of sympathy forwarded by the association in connection with the death of King George V. His Excellency, it was stated, was arranging for the full text of the resolution to be communicated to the King. The following officers were elected: President, Professor F. P. Wilson; vice-presidents (country), Messrs. W.B. Allen, M. Maxton, J. Daysh, G. Pain; vice-presidents (town), Mesdames Carter, McGowan, Sir Frederick Chapman, Messrs. J. C. Webb, Byron Brown, A. Burns, 'William Toomath; committee, Mesdames Elliott, Lumsden, McGowan, Helyer. Messrs. Coulter, Tandy, Cheesman, McGowan; treasurer, Mr. D. McKay; auditor. Mr. A. T. Little. Professor Wilson and Mrs. Carter were appointed the representatives of the association on the Wellington Beautifying Society. Following the completion of business afternoon tea was served.
