UNIVERSITIES GRANT
Increase in Britain (British Official Wireless.) (Received March .1, 5.5 p.m.) Rugby, February 28. The State grant in aid of universities, now £1,830,000, is to be raised to £2,100,000 for each year of the next quinquennium, with a special additional increase of £150,000 for the first year of that period. In announcing this decision the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Mr. Neville Chamberlain, says that in making this special addition to the vote for 1936-37, his intention is in effect to give back to the universities grants of £150,000 which was surrendered to the Exchequer during the financial crisis.
