So far no one has come forward with the winning ticket in an art union conducted recently in Christchurch in aid of the health camps fund. A Christchurch man, who bad his pocket-wallet stolen a few weeks ago believes that one of six tickets therein is the winner, which should have entitled him to a work of art which could be exchanged for a motor-car. It is said that his wife bought live tickets, the last of which was 52,474, and that he himself bought the next six, so that the first of them should have been the winner, No. 52.475. It is highly unlikely that the thief, if he recognises the winning ticket, will come forward for his work of art. On the other hand, the thief could offer his conscience a salve by posting the ticket back to the rightful owner. The draw took place on the evening of Saturday, February 8. When a man, his wife and their seven children were watching the moon’s eclipse from a boat on the River Mornva, Yugoslavia, the boat capsized and all but a boy were drowned.
