Both Markets Quiet

PRICES DECLINE The London butter market was quiet again last week, prices showing a further decline of 4/- on tlie week. It is reported that the market was steadier at the close. The New Zealand retail price remains unchanged at 1/- a lb., but Danish has been increased Id. to l/4d. The Dairy Board has received advice from its London office that tlie high price of Danish butter is due to severe weather interfering with their inland transport, while there lias also been.an active demand from Germany. Deliveries of New Zealand butter last week totalled 2377 tons, compared with 2363 tone for the previous week and 1908 tons a year ago. Australian deliveries totalled 2145 tons, against 2366 tons a year ago. New Zealand stored butter now amounts to 4584 tons, including 2092 tons ex the Port 'Wyndham and Rangitane, compared with 3706 tons for the previous week and 5681 tons a year ago. Australian stored butter totals 3377 tons, against 2718 tons a year ago. The cheese market continues very quiet, prices declining a further 1/- on the week. Deliveries of New Zealand cheese Inst week totalled 20,388 crates, compared with 15,582 crates a year ago. while the quantity in store is now 74,959 crates, including 14.180 crates ex the Rangitane, compared with 125,70 S crates a_year ago. Canadian deliveries totalled 3570 boxes, against 5373 boxes'a year ago, while the quantity in store is 107,815 boxes, compared with 95,897 boxes a year ago. English factory, 48/- to 54/- (48/- to 56/-). Minimum f.o.b. Prices. The New Zealand Dairy Board has fixed the minimum prices for f.o.b. and c.i.f. sales on the basis of: Butter, 10^d.; cheese. s|d. Minimum prices.are subject to agents’ selling commission of 1J per cent. The prices are equivalent to 85/4 c.i.f.e. for butter and 49/7 c.i.f.e. for cheese. War Risk Insurance. The board has been advised by its London office that the war risk added premium will he. lid. per cent, on all departures from the Port Bowen to the Tuscan Star. Agents’ Reports. A. H. Turnbull and Co.. Ltd., have received the following cable from their principals,' W. Weildel and Co., Ltd., dated London, February 28 :—Butter : Better demand. Danish, 135/-. The New Zealand Producers' Co-opera-tive Marketing Association’s weekly cabled market report from-London dated February 28 is as followsßutter : Market steady after a quiet week. New Zealand, 88/-. Danish is nominal owing to short supplies, 134/- to 135/-. Cheese: Market quiet. New Zealand white 50/-, coloured 54/-. Mr. Thomas Gray ha« received the following cable from Rowson and Co.. Ltd., dated London, February 28:—Cheese: New Zealand white 50/- per cwt., coloured 54/- per cwt. Butter: New Zealand first grade 87/- per cwt., finest grade 88/per cwt. Both markets slow, weak. ■
