A FAMOUS PILOT

McGregor National Fund PRIME MINISTER SUPPORTS APPEAL "There have been many appeals to the generosity of the citizens of New Zealand, but I cannot think of any more Worthy of support than the McGregor National Fund,” said the Prime. Minister, Hon. M. J. Savage, yesterday. "Subscription lists for the assistance of the family of the famous pilot have been opened in the columns of the Dominion’s leading newspapers and I am sure that the public of New Zealand will respond heartily. An essentially modest man, the career of the Lite Squadron Leader McGregor was an epic of the air. “One of tbe aces in the Great War, his military record was equalled by few, and his devotion to aviation was shown by his establishment of one of the earliest commercial services. Only recently he and his co-pilot (Mr. Walker) established a world’s light aeroplane record in the Centenary Air Race. His selection as chief pilot by Union Airways seemed to open up an avenue of honourable’employment in the element he loved which might have endured for many years. But he paid the price of so many pioneers, and death intervened. The main object of the fund is, I understand, the care and education of his four young children, and I have no hesitation in recommending it to my fellow-citizens as worthy of their generous impulses.” More Donations Yesterday Further donations for the appeal on behalf of the late Squadron Leader M, C. McGregor’s family were received yesterday. This was the second day of the appeal, and the amount to baud from Wellington subscribers is now £3l/0/6. The donations received yesterday are as follow: —
