South Africa Playing Australia HOME TEAM AT WICKETS By Telegraph Press Assn.—Copyright (Received February 29, 12.37 a.m.) Durban, February 28. The filth and final cricket Test between Australia and South Africa commenced to-day. The weather was overcast and muggy early, the sun breaking through just before lunch. The wicket wa« perfect. The teams are:—
Australia: V. Y. Richardson (captain), McCabe, Fingleton, Brown, Chipperfield, Darling, Oldfield, Grimmett, McCormick, O’Reilly, O’Brien and Barnett.
South Africa: H. F. Wade (captain), Nourse, Harvey, Siedle, Mitchell, Viljoen. Langton, Balaskas, Davies, Crisp, Van der Merwe and Dalton (twelfth man).
Van der Merwe, who replaces Nich olson, was reserve wicketkeeper in the team which visited Australia and New Zealand in the 1931-32 season. South Africa won the toss. Quiet and uneventful cricket followed, the first half-hour producing 16, after which Wade had a sudden burst of energy which was- too good to last, Richardson, at deep mid-off, dismissing him with a well-judged catch,* low down. A further spell of quiet play was followed by the dismissal of Mitchell, who returned a high catch to the bowler. At lunch the score was 74 for two wickets. . Scores: — SOUTH AFRICA.—First Innings. Grimmett 10 Nourse, not out 12 Extras 3 Total for two wickets 74 FOUR WICKETS FOR 144 At 3.30 p.m. the South African score was 144 for four wickets (Nourse 50). Grimmet had taken all four wickets.
