Man Admitted to Probation For Year ’ MAGISTRATE’S COURT “This man was in a quarrelsome mood,” said Sub-Inspector C. E. Roach in the Magistrate’s Court, Wellington, yesterday, when Jack Melllsh Greig was charged with assaulting PatrickJoseph Hamilton. Plead’"g gui’ty, he was admitted to probation for a year a prohibition order made against him, and he was also ordered to pay £2/11/-, the amount of the damage he bad caused.

Sub-Inspector Roach said that during the evening of February 1 Greig, who had been drinking, was approaching people and asking them if they wanted to fight him. About 8.15 p.m. Greiff was talking to a man named Needham in Molesworth Street when Hamilton came along and passed a jocular remark. Greig turned immediately and struck Hamilton, who received concussion and had to be taken to hospital. Theft of Ring and Watch When arrested by detectives on charges of stealing a solitaire pearl ring valued at £3, and a wrist watch valued at £3, Georgina Grace Harris, aged 23, said she had stolen the articles under a sudden impulse. She pleaded guilty to the charges and was admitted to 12 months’ probation. Application for the suppression of her name was refused. Detective-Sergeant Revell said; that during November and December accused was employed as a maid by Mrs. T. D. Carruthers at Khandallah, aud about November 9 she stole the ring from her employer. In December she went to the home of Mrs. M. A. French with Mrs. Carruthers, and while there she stole the watch. The thefts were reported to the police, and when interviewed yesterday morning accused produced the articles. At present she was in permanent employment as a waitress. Other Cases Convicted of stealing six rolls of wallpaper valued at £l/1/-, George Haylll was admitted to probation for 12 months.

Two charges of trading on Sundays were preferred against Bohumll Pospisil, who was convicted and discharged on the first charge aid was fined 10/- and costs on the second. Admitting a breach of his prohibition order, Charles Bell was fined £l> and on a charge of drunkenness was convicted and discharged. Margaret Martis, alias Dobsou, was fined £2 and costs for a breach of a prohibition order. Fines of £3 and £2 were imposed on Harold Thomas Dalylel Robertson and, Giovanni Castelli , respectively on charges of falling to clear noxious weeds from land.
