BRITISH MUSIC SOCIETY

The song group of the British Music Society recently held its first meeting of the year, and the large attendance of members and the enthusiasm displayed by singers and listeners’augurs well for the success of future evenings. Tho programme consisted of songs by French composers, and, as usual, tho items submitted showed that there had been a considerable amount of research and study. This, of course, is the object of the group. Among tho composers represented were Weckerlin, Bizet, Chaminade, Massanot, Saint Saens and Gounod, and there were also some old French folk songs. Members who contributed to tho programme, were the Misses Ella Fair, Mavis Chamberlain, Marjorie Bennie, Gladys Webb and Molly Atkinson, and Messrs. L. Irwin and W. Roy Hill. Tho accompaniments were ably played by Miss Lila Brady, Mrs. K. O. Thomson and Mr. Clement Howe, and Mr. S. Harris played a violin obbligato to Miss Webb’s “Agnus Del.”
