Annual Conference at New Plymouth By Telegraph—Press Association. New Plymouth, February 28. Sixty bands were represented at the conference of the New Zealand Bras.-, Bands Association to-day. Mr. E. Palliser (Wellington) presided. The report recorded one of the most successful years in the association’s history, the membership having grown to 88 bands. A motion suggesting the prohibition of the publication of points scored by other than placed- bands was defeated, as was. a remit.urging that, where two judges were appointed, both should be qualified to judge any section of the contest. . A recommendation that side-drums be permitted in test selections was adopted, and two such drums will.be permitted'at' the next contest. ' A rWni’t'suggesting test selections for C grade bands was defeated, and a suggestion that the date of the contest. bp changed to Easter was not adopted. A ' recommendation prohibiting for 12-months transference of players from . higher grade bands to lower, ’grade within a radius of 25 miles was adopt ed, to be submitted to the execuiive. Action to institute a centra! library at Wellington for the exchange ol music was promised by the chairmau. Officers elected were as follow: — Patron, the Governor-General Lord Galway; president, Mr. E. Palliser: vice-president, Messrs. T. Lindsay Buick and G. McLeod (New Plymouth) ; secretary and treasurer, Mr. J. G. Osborne (Wellington) ; management committee, Messrs. A. G. Homer (Otago), Hopwood (Ashburton), G. Bilker (Timaru), C. Patcbett: (Wellington), T. Goodall (Wellington), and W. P. MacLachlan (Wellington); auditors, H. F. Allen and, Son; trustees, Messrs. Palliser and Osborne; hon. solicitor, Mr. Campbell Spratt. , Nelson was recommended as . the venue for next year’s contest. Christchurch was the only other applicant. The allotment will be made firmly by the management committee.
