New Zealand Authors
Sir, —In reply to a letter appearing in to-day’s issue signed “Fifty-four Years in New Zealand,” it is really impossible to include in this exhibition short stories unless they have been collected and published in one or more volumes. There would be' no limit to the work entailed in collecting short stories written by New Zealanders, apart from tbe possible criticism that a writer of short stories, who has not written enough, or sufficiently well, to secure publication of them in a volume, cannot legitimately be called an author within the scope of the exhibition. —I am etc., C. A. L. TREADWELL. Wellington, February 28. Sir, —Will you allow me to thank Air. Treadwell for his full and courteous reply to my letter asking him for a definition of the term "A New Zealand Author”? It was not an easy problem to solve and satisfy everyone.—l am, etc., THIRTY-ONE YEARS IN N.Z. Otaki, February 27. ♦
