NATIONAL UNION

Appeal For More Interest In Politics ANTI-LABOUR FORCES Au appeal for a still greater interest in politics by members of tho National Union was made by its chairman, Mr. G. N. Armstrong, at its annual meeting last night. Over- fifty were present. Mr. Armstrong said that one good thing the accession to power of the Labour Party would do was to consolidate the anti-Labour forces. “When the next time comes we will realise that the safety and future of our country rests with us at the elections, and something definite will be done,” he said. Good organisation was needed to overthrow Labour. The National Political Federation was looking to them, as an already-formed body, for assistance. The party held the National Union highly, and the union could expect heli) from its leaders in Parliament. "My advice to the incoming executive is to keep the body together so that the organisation may still be there next time we go to the polls and that we may do that good which is expected of us,” said Mr. Armstrong. He realised that between elections social activities must be a large part of the union's work. He remarked that when the executive took office the union was moribund and had not been active for two years, but at the end of the financial year the membership was 190, an advance of which the executive might be proud. The statement of. accounts showed a credit balance of approximately £2O. Draft revised rules were provisionally adopted. The meeting confirmed a resolution expressing sympathy with the Queen and the Royal Family in the death of King George and expressing the loyalty of members to King Edward. The following officers were elected: President, Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates; vicepresidents, Messrs. C. A. L. Treadwell, J. B. MacEwgn, J. D. McMillan, C. H. Weston, 0. C. Mazengarb, H. F. Toogood, Hope B. Gibbons, Mesdames G. F. Stone and F. E. Ward; chairman, Mr. 0. Brown; hon. treasurer, Mr. R. Brookman; h n. secretary, Mr. S. Toogood; hon. auditor, Mr. A. J. Bannerman; executive committee, Misses M. Anscombe, N. Aplin, P. Hope Gibbons and Y. Holmes and Messrs. I. Graves and F. D. Stafford.
