ZANE GREY’S PLANS

Staying in Australia in

Meantime

(Received February 10, 8.35 p.m.) ■ Sydney, February 10.

Mr. Zane Grey’s manager said to-day that whether Mr. Grey decided to leave Australia or stay depended on whether there were any further developments in the protest of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals against the alleged cruelty of big-game fishing. Mr. Grey was staying in the meantime. at any rate.

A Sydney cable dated February 7 stated that fishermen were pertuibed over the attitude of the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, toward big game fishing. Mr. S. A. Lord, secretary ol the society, said it regarded it as wantonly eruel sport, which served no purpose other than to give a few fishermen thrills and mental pleasure. Mr. Zane Grey, according to the “Telegraph’s" Bermagui correspondent, said that if he could not fish in peace in Australia, lie would have to go fishing elsewhere. The question of cruelty to swordfish had been thrashed out in America years ago, and it was shown theu that swordfish had practically no nerves and did not suffer agony, as human beings understood it.
