HAIRDRESSER FINED
Sequel to a Police Raid
By Telegraph—Press Association. New Plymouth, February 10. A police raid on a hairdresser’s shop and a subsequent search on February 1 resulted in the proprietor, Francis Sampson Roberts, being fined £25 and 10/- costs op a gaining charge in the Magistrate’s Court this morning. Ronald Cole, who was found on the premises, was fined £5 and 10/- costs. A feature of the case was a long address by defending counsel, Mr. C. 11. Croker, who pointed out that the Jaws relating to bookmaking had not had public sanction, and were likely to be replaced in the future, an argument which the magistrate, Mr. W. 11. Woodward, suggested wa s for tho Legislature rather than the court.
