ORGANISING INDUSTRY

Assistance of Government BUREAU TO BE SET UR By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, February 5. The establishment of a Bureau of Industry, a iienuauent body to assist the Government to explore and examine every possible avenue of organised development and to ensure the collaboration of all sections of the State’s activities for the development of the Dominion, was announced to-day in an interview with the Hon. H, T. Armstrong, Minister of Labour and Employment. The Bureau of Industry will consist of administrative officers and experts at present in the State’s employ associated with* all phases of national development. An Industries Development Board will function as part of the Bureau of Industry. "For the purpose of securing a complete liaison with Cabinet," said the Minister, “the functions of this section of the administration will be carried out under the' guidance, and direction of a special committee of Cabinet Ministers, consisting of the Ministers of Finance,- Industries and Commerce, and Labour. The most important functions will be to organise and survey the necessary procedure for the expansion of industrial development in every direction and to examine and report on all projects that are formulated with the hope of assistance frdm the Government. This step does not involve any increase in administrative cost." The Minister said that in addition it was intended to utilise the advantages of the proposed bureau through expert sub-committees for helpful consultative contact with representatives of labour and industry, and for examining any proposals submitted to It. These proposals do not require legislative enactment, as full statutory provision already exists.
