Wellington Horticultural Society Those who attended the Wellington Horticultural Society’s midsummer show yesterday found it hard to believe that a fierce storm had ravaged the district last Sunday, and it was evident that a great deal of trouble had been taken to save some beautiful blooms from destruction. The show was held this time in the Concert Chamber of tile Town Hall, which was ablaze , with the colours of masses of hydrangeas, graceful gladioli and several tables of cut flowers. The show was opened by the president of the .Wellington Horticultural Society, Mrs. Knox Gilmer, who, on behalf of Miss Archibald, presented a handsome silver trophy for the best six hydrangeas in memory of her brother, who was famous throughout New Zealand for the wonderful hydrangeas he cultivated in his garden at Day’s Mrs. Gilmer thanked all those who had arranged. the show under such difficult conditions, and mentioned the several displays of gladioli and other flowers which were special exhibits, 'j he cbmmttee were afterward the guests of Mrs. Gilmer at afternoon tea, which was served on the stage, at a long table charmingly decorated with gold-shaded gladioli.
