AUSTRALIAN’S TRIBUTE

Little but amazement and admiration has tilled the thoughts of Mrs. I. Wallace-Turner, secretary to the New South Wales branch of the EnglishSpeaking Union, during a tour of New Zealand wlich she lias now nearly completed, states a writer in the Christchurch “Press,” She is full of appreciation, not only of the beauties of the Country and its tourist facilities, but of the qualities of the people themselves. She gave an assurance In an interview that henceforth she would be an enthusiastic ambassador for New Zealand in Australia. “I have never known in all my travels such service,” Mrs, WallaceTurner said. 'J “I did hot think it possible for any organisation working through agents, as the New Zealand Tourist-Department does, to give such service. Then again, the attention given by individuals —people in hotels, for instance, who persistently refuse tips —is amazing and shows a genuine appreciation of the meaning of tlie word service.” After a day at Oxford, visiting a sheep sale and watching harvesting operations, Mrs. Wallace-Turner was full of enthusiasm for the beauties of the Canterbury Plains, She said she could not help but admire the natural, unsophisticated manner of the South Island people. In this they were distinct ffom the North Islanders. A difference could be noticed the moment she set foot on the South Island, at Nelson. There she found a distinct English atmosphere, one of culture and courtesy, which was even more pronounced in Christchurch.
