RUGBY AT EASTER

Big Marist Tournament

The annual tournament of North Island Marist Rugby football clubs is to be held in Gisborne during the Easter holidays. It is reported that the following teams are expected to take part in the Spillane Cup competition: Wellington Marist Old "boys, Auckland Marist Old, Boys, Wanganui, Hamilton, Napier, St. Patrick’s College Old Boys and the Gisborne Celtic and Marist Old Boys. The decision to grant the tournament to Gisborne was reached at a conference held in Wanganui last year, when the tournament was held in that centre, and since July last preliminary work has been proceeding in Poverty Bay. A committee representing the Gisborne Celtic and Marist clubs has the arrangements in hand.

An art union is being run to raise money to defray expenses, ’and sub-com-mittees are arranging for the transport and quartering of visiting teams. The organising committee has the. co-operation of Mr. A. Cassin, whose experience in organising for hockey tournaments and other fixtures on a large scale has given him a reputation that is almost a byword in Poverty Bay.
