Sir Reginald Clarry, who was among those honoured with a knighthood by the late King George V on January 1, became well known to many New Zealanders for his hospitality in England. He is a civil engineer, and specialises in fuel. He is chairman of the British Road Tar Association. During the Great War he acted iu an’honorary advisory capacity to the Ministry of Munitions. He was elected for Newport as a Unionist at a by-election in 1922, and held the seat until 1929, when it was won by Labour. He was again returned at the general election of 1931.
Archdeacon Hansell was a passenger to Wellington from the north by the Limited express yesterday. Mr. A. H. Johnstone, K.C., and Mr. E. F. Smith, Crown Solicitor at Auckland, arrived in Wellington yesterday. Mr. S. G. Holland, MP., went to Auckland last night. Mr. L. Dwan, Wellington, went to Nelson by air yesterday.
Mr. Stronach Paterson went to Dunedin by air from Wellington yesterday.
Mr. J. R. McKenzie came to Wellington by the Limited express from Auckland yesterday morning.
Mr. 11. D. Acklaud amt Mr. James Begg, members of the Meat Board, left for the south last evening.
.Mr. A. M. Taylor, Naval Architect of the Union Steam Ship Company, went to Dunedin yesterday by Cook Strait Airways and Union Airways.
Mr. T. C. A. Hislop, Mayor of Wellington, has been reappointed a member of the Board of Health for three years as from October 1 last year.
Major and Mrs. Atherfold, of the Salvation Army, have come to Wellington as divisional officers. They were formerly at Dunedin. Mr. G. Springhalt, managing director of Armstrong. Springhall, Ltd., will leave to-day by the Monowai ou a visit to England aud the United States
Mr. J. R. Kemp, Commissioner of Crown Lauds, Queensland, and bis wife, arrived in Wellington from the north by yesterday’s Limited express.
Captain E.‘ Mathc, marine superintendent of the Nord-Deutscber Lloyd Line, is at present visiting New Zealand.
Mr. A. E Moore, Leader of the Opposition in the Queensland Parliament, arrived at Auckland by the Monowai on a short visit to the Dominion.
Mr C. P. Agar. Christchurch, who has been visiting Wellington. left on his return to Christchurch by the steamerexpress last evening.
Mr. W. AlcK Jeffrey, general manager for New Zealand of the Hume Pipe Company, returned from England by the Monowai after an absence of 10 mouths.
Mr. Il E. Gaze, of Hamilton, has been elected a Fellow of the Royal Photographic Society London, for general photographic work, including portraiture aud figure studies. Mr, Alan Nisbet, 8.D.5., of Dunedin, has taken up a position in the Dental Clinic of the Wellington Hospital. Mr. Nisbet, who is an ex-Imperlal Army officer, was an active member of the Legion of Frontiersmen at Dunedin. Mr. A. R. Holliday, AdministratorGeneral of Uganda, arrived at Auckland by the Monowai on a visit to the Dominion. Mr. Holliday will take up the duties of Administrator-General at Tanganyika, formerly German East Africa, when he returns home
Dr. M. Laserson, of Latvia, was a passenger from Sydney by the Monowai which arrived at Auckland on Tuesday Dr. Laserson has been working iu Geneva for the past four years, and intends to remain in the Dominion for three weeks.
