MAN LOSES FINGER
Detonator Explodes
YESTERDAY’S ACCIDENTS
The explosion of a detonator he was handling at his home, 16 Campbell Terrace, Petone, yesterday caused Mr. A. Dailey, a canister maker, severe injuries. He lost the first finger of his left hand and severely injured the second finger and thumb. His left eye also was injured and he suffered shock. After being attended by a doctor he was taken to hospital by the Free Ambulance. Two men riding a motor-cycle at Derwent Street, Island Bay,, yesterday morning collided with a milk van and were injured. The rider, Mr. E. N. Thompson, jun., 131 Wallace Street, a machine operator, was taken to hospital by the ambulance with severe cuts on his left ankle. Mr. E. N. Thompson, sen., carpenter, of the same address, who was on the pillion, suffered injuries to his left leg and right arm, and was taken to hospital, but later in the day was discharged. Mr. N. Gimiane. who lives at the Boys’ Institute, a factory assistant, received a scalp wound when he struck a tin during a dive into the water at Day’s Bay yesterday morning. He was taken to hospital by the ambulance.
